Finding the good

It has been a disastrous weekend. I woke up, I'm ashamed to say, at about 2:00 on Saturday and I had about 2 hours before work. I felt really good, it had been raining and it was dark outside and the light tapping of rain on the window had allowed me to sleep into the afternoon. I was having a cup of coffee and Mike and I were making some migas and I noticed that the carpet in front of the door was soaked. No big deal, Mike said he was going to use the steam cleaner to vacuum up the water as soon as it stopped raining. This actually turned out to be a huge deal, I took a step onto what I thought was dry carpet and water actually splashed up, the entire living room was wet maintenance came pulled the padding and left this huge (and very loud) blower to dry the carpet. I turned it off last night it was driving me and the cats crazy. So, the carpet is still wet and it smells, gross. Here's a pic of the living room. And a pic of where the living room carpet meets the dining room. Follow (the cat) is weighing herself.
Oh, you thought that was it? That was just Saturday I said the weekend was disastrous. This is a picture of the drawer in my bathroom. I'm not sure if you can tell it's full of water. The AC was apparently leaking and the drip from the ceiling caused this. There was water everywhere in the bathroom this was just the most interesting. Mike is taking the morning off to deal with all this, he's the best.
Yesterday, after I totally flipped out, I calmed down and decided that the good in this was I get new carpet. And, that really made me feel better. Today, I was pretty exhausted from yesterday so i didn't get nearly as upset, the maintenance man put more freon in the AC so it actually feels cool in my bedroom. See, easy lemonade.

Frittata

I love saying frittata, it is such a fun word and it makes me feel fancy. This is a tomato, onion and cheese frittata. Below the frittata (I had to say it one more time) is a pesto pasta this was also served with raw fruits and veggies.

As promised the Oatmeal Peanut butter cookies. I took a quick pic and I wasn't even going to post about them after eating them. I thought they kind of tasted like baby food bananas and if you've ever tasted those as an adult you would know that they don't taste like fresh bananas at all. But, I decided to post because B loved them, and your kids or even you might too. Here's the link again and I didn't use soy milk I used skim cow's milk.

Yesterday's Blog

I had full intentions of blogging yesterday but I had only 1 & 1/2 episodes left of Big Love Season 3. Since I changed my cable box to the HD once every day at about 2-3 a.m. my box decides to reboot in the middle of a show and it takes about 20 minutes to get it up again, so Bill had just told Nicki that he wanted to separate and box shuts off so if you watch the show you can understand why I decided not to get online last night.

I wanted to share my breakfast/lunch yesterday. PB & banana drizzled with honey and some fruit. The bread I used is Pepperidge Farms Oatmeal and it was very good. I saw it out shopping and it called me from across the isle, just kidding, bread doesn't talk to me, I'm not crazy.
This was last night's dinner, black beans, rice, and corn I also served it with some tortillas. This was a night that there were no leftovers, so a winner. Usually there's something on the plate that Mike or the kids don't like and they won't eat anymore than they have to. The brown rice has red, green, and yellow peppers, carrots, and onion I seasoned it with cumin and used veggie broth to cook instead of water. The beans are seasoned pretty much the same except I added jalapeno. I'm hungry and I wish I had some more of this now.

I didn't wake up until 2:00 p.m. today, it was so dark outside. It just started storming. So, I don't set an alarm and I used to have Mike call and wake me up but because he is such an awesome husband he started taking the bus to work and letting me sleep. Because I didn't wake up until 2 I've had a rushed day it went like this, clean up, dishes, cook dinner for tonight, take shower, hug B-ray and now I'm going to get ready for work.

My first Banana Entry

You may have noticed that my url is Hannah's Banana's (actually hannahsbannanas, I do know how to spell but that was all that was available) and, there are two reasons for this. The first is obvious I have been called Hannah Banana my whole life, and I also really like to cook with bananas. Bananas are very sweet and make a yummy healthy dessert. Braden and I came up with with this smoothie on Friday when we were craving something sweet while watching Nim's Island (which was a very cute movie).
Recipe:
1 small frozen banana
2 Tablespoons peanut butter
1/4 Cup plain yogurt
1/4 Cup skim milk
Blend all ingredients until smooth.
You could add a little honey to make it sweeter, or even sugar. This makes one serving and has about 340 calories. I think it would make a great breakfast. Of course served in one of my Rocky glasses.
So for dinner tonight we had Spiced Carrot and Lentil Soup with regular and cheese Naan that we picked up from Nirvana the Indian restaurant on Memorial. Mike was scarred of the soup when he saw it cooking. He asked "so we are having carrot and bean soup?!?" After it was blended up he didn't seem to mind this healthy meatless dinner. Same happened last soup I blended, and also I snuck broccoli into marinara sauce. Mike HATES broccoli and he didn't even notice it there. Hmmm... puree veggies and Mike will eat them. That makes since because he always complains about the texture of food. Before I met him he had never eaten an apple or banana!

Tastes like Grandma's

Today was a long day. You might have noticed I had quite a lot of caffeine yesterday, so I had trouble falling asleep last night. I think it's important to share what started this commitment to living a healthier lifestyle. I recently gave up cigarettes. Yes, I know gross. It has been such a huge part of my life (off and on for the last 13!!! years!) and it has been really difficult letting go. So in the process I gave up sugar, caffeine, unnatural foods, and any cleaning ,including bath and body, products with toxic chemicals. I think it really helped distract me from not smoking. Now I'm not as strict with caffeine I so love coffee, and I can drink it now without that intense craving to smoke. And it's not always easy to give up all bad foods, but I think I am slowly changing my eating habits into something permanent. I thought that before I posted tonight's dinner that I should explain that I don't always follow my own rules. So here's what we had.

It's Sweet Potato & Sausage soup served with cornbread. It has smoked sausage in it I know that is not good food, but sausage and cabbage go so well together. It reminded me of my grandmother's house in the country. I grew up out in the country we raised our own animals and grew our own fruits and veggies. I was organic long before i was the cool thing to do. Anyway, it was very yummy.

The kiddos are out of school tomorrow and Mike traded his Friday off for Monday so I've got a long, loud weekend ahead. As much as I love my family fours days without a quiet house is a long time. I just upgraded my cable today so I've got some Weeds episodes to catch up on!

Very 1st Entry

I got out of training about an hour ago; after class Mike and I took a mile walk (so not my idea). Our instructor decided to change up our "lunch" time so I didn't have dinner with the kids. This is what we all had, and I ate at my computer desk.

I was pretty excited about this healthy version of Tuna Casserole with whole wheat noodles and all the veggies, but it tasted pretty blah. I'm still not sure what went wrong here everything tasted good by itself but all together it just didn't work.

I did have about four iced coffees today. Yum! How much do you love my Rocky glass?

These are really easy to make just fill glass with ice pour in coffee and leave room for half a cup of milk. I used Folgers gourmet hazelnut cream coffee and skim milk. Each glass was about 50 calories so not too bad. Below is something I just discovered and I don't know how I've gone my whole life without it, Fage. It's Greek yogurt and this one has cherry on the side. To me it tastes just like crust less cherry cheesecake. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these!

And B got a new hat today. I thought he looked so handsome I had to post this pic. And it's midnight now so I should probably get some sleep.
